About Planchonella Hill
History

Tony and Sharon Baker moved to the North Star Area in the mid 90's to manage a large mixed farming operation. This move allowed for the purchase of 'Bim Bimble', 400 acres of quality soil in the Yallaroi District, in 1998. Today, 'Bim Bimble' is utilised as a Bull Depot due to its suitability for forage cropping and pasture improvement.

Our breeding operation takes place largely on 'Forest Vale', only a few kilometres south of the township of Coolatai, in conjunction with lease and agistment country. 'Forest Vale' is surrounded by Jardines' and Ottley Creeks. The fertile creek flats lend themselves to fodder cropping and pasture improvement, generally utilised for the fattening of trade cattle or production of hay/silage for drought preparation. The majority of 'Forest Vale' however is grazing country, rising from undulating sandy soils timbered with Tumbledown Gum and Bull Wattle, to basalt hills and ridges growing Broadleaf Ironbark. It is here that our females are expected to perform. n Australia.
Breed Characteristics

Senepols are believed to be the only breed of cattle, presently in Australia, that carry the “slick” coat gene which is associated with their heat tolerance and insect resistance. USDA research indicates that Senepols have a greater immune response when compared with other beef breeds mainly due to the N’dama influence. Senepols are similar to Angus in calving and light birth weight. The huge advantage they offer is tremendous calf vigour with calves standing and sucking quickly after birth. They are naturally polled, honey to red in colour with exceptionally good temprement. Being unrelated to 98% of the Australian cattle population they offer a high degree of hybrid vigour when crossed with other breeds. They also tend to "even up" different lines of crossbred cattle.
